About Me
MY BACKGROUND
I am Mario Mata, the youngest of three siblings and the first in my family to graduate from college. Raised in the Aldine area of Houston, Texas, I financed my education through part-time jobs and many late nights of study, driven by the challenges my family faced and my ambition for a brighter future.

With a deep-rooted passion for both business and technology, I pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Management Information Systems. This strategic choice has positioned me to explore careers that integrate my dual interests, offering fulfilling opportunities in either domain or a combination of both.

During my college years, I demonstrated my leadership and commitment to excellence by serving as the President of the Business Law Association and Vice-President of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. I was also honored as a recipient of the BP Future Talent Scholarship and consistently earned a spot on the Dean’s Honors List and Honor Roll.

Prairie View A&M University, Junior System Administrator

At Prairie View A&M University's College of Business, I worked under the Senior System Administrator to efficiently address and resolve support tickets from faculty members. For more complex issues, I escalated them to the relevant departments, ensuring that all parties involved were kept informed and supported throughout the process. This role, combined with my duties as a cybersecurity research assistant, demanded strong time management and prioritization skills. Beyond resolving tickets, I conducted training sessions for faculty on new technologies and security protocols, managed software installations under the guidance of the Senior System Administrator, and performed troubleshooting for computer systems and other classroom hardware. Throughout my tenure, I maintained strict adherence to Company standards and policies.
Prairie View A&M, Cybersecurity Research Assistant

During my tenure as a cybersecurity research assistant at Prairie View A&M University's College of Business, I had the opportunity to work alongside a team of highly skilled cybersecurity professionals. My responsibilities included staying up to date on the latest technological advancements by thoroughly reading and analyzing articles on cybersecurity. I summarized these articles and shared insightful analyses with my manager for potential dissemination.
A major focus of my research was examining the influence of artificial intelligence on business intelligence tools and exploring the future economic impacts of these technologies. Additionally, I supported students enrolled in cybersecurity and business management courses, ensuring they remained engaged and informed in their studies. This often involved coordinating with my manager and professors to provide the necessary academic support and resources.
A key aspect of my technical responsibilities involved assisting students with the setup and configuration of Virtual Machines and various cybersecurity-related software, including Kali Linux, Wireshark, and Eclipse. One of my most rewarding projects was collaborating with a team to develop an in-depth presentation on how ChatGPT and other large language models produce sophisticated responses. This presentation was successfully delivered at the International Information Management Association Conference 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During my time at Prairie View A&M University, where I pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems, I acquired a robust foundation in integrating information technology solutions with business processes. My coursework covered a wide range of topics, from systems analysis and design to database management and cybersecurity. I developed strong technical skills in programming, using languages such as SQL, C#, and Java, and became proficient in using advanced tools like Oracle Apex DBMS and Microsoft Power BI for data analysis. ​In this project, I leveraged SSH to deploy a Docker container within the Linode cloud service, demonstrating my ability to manage and configure cloud-based applications. My primary responsibilities included writing and modifying bash scripts to facilitate secure access to the Pi-hole admin console. I then utilized this console to enable OpenDNS settings, modify the DNS server to the Pi-hole's IPv4 address, and actively manage domain blacklisting. By updating regex filters directly within the terminal, I enhanced the security and efficiency of the network operations.
Networking Solutions
In this project, I designed and configured a robust network solution for a small office/home environment using Cisco Packet Tracer. My approach included laying out a network that ensures seamless connectivity among various devices, deploying and connecting end devices with appropriate cabling, and setting up dynamic IP address assignment via DHCP. I conducted thorough tests to verify network functionality, focusing on efficient data routing and seamless communication across the network.
Security Vulnerabilities
This critical initiative focused on enhancing system security by conducting comprehensive vulnerability scans against Windows 10 hosts using the Nessus Essentials tool. My role encompassed the full Vulnerability Management lifecycle—starting from discovery to prioritization, assessment, reporting, remediation, and verification. The project was instrumental in identifying and mitigating critical system weaknesses, thus ensuring the robustness and reliability of our IT infrastructure.
User Experience and Issue Tracking
This project involved developing an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) in Microsoft Visual Studio 2022, utilizing the C# programming language to facilitate real-time price updates and streamlined order placement. Additionally, I implemented a comprehensive issue tracking system that allowed for efficient reporting and tracking of IT-related issues. This system provided users with a confirmation number for their reports, which they could use to request updates, thereby significantly enhancing user satisfaction and operational transparency.
